truth

You all know that I think low content book publishing is a great opportunity to make an income online. However, I have seen some people on Youtube recently that are making this sound far too easy. And I know I may also be guilty of making it sound easy, when in reality it isn’t.

So I just want to set the record straight and, without wanting to discourage anyone, I want to talk about the realities of this business. And why sometimes it is not as easy as people are making it out to be. I’m going to tell you 5 uncomfortable truths that are not talked about enough, but you need to know.

1. This is a marathon, not a sprint

We all want to make money quickly, but publishing low content books is not a get-rich-quick scheme. This is true for most online businesses but it’s especially true for low content book publishing. When you start, you have to put in a lot of work for very little or no reward. And that is the difficult part. Working hard and not seeing a result straight away is not easy. Most succesful low content book publishers haven’t made their money overnight. It takes time, and as long as you’re prepared for that, you’re going to find it a lot easier and not give up quickly.

2. Beware of burnout

Burnout is real! Especially in this business. Any creative process can become repetitive, you can get tired of creating the same kind of thing over and over. Or you can run out of ideas and you just don’t know where to start with your next project. Burnout will happen, there is really no way to avoid it, but as long as you know why and where it comes from, then you can take steps to get over it quickly. The best way to deal with it is to step away from things and do something completely different. Take breaks and look after your mental health. You can return refreshed and ready to start again.

3. Book covers and titles are important

I know it sounds obvious, but looking on Amazon, you will find that good covers and titles are not always a high priority for some book sellers. This may be an uncomfortable truth if you’re rushing to produce a book and you skip the steps needed to make your books stand out. We do judge a book by its cover, even if we always heard the saying not to do that. So we need to spend time to research and create outstanding book covers that buyers are drawn to. Our book covers are the first thing a buyer will see and they will form an opinion about it straight away. The title is how a buyer finds our book in the first place, so thorough keyword research is very important. All of these things take time and effort, so make sure you don’t skip this really important part of your book creation.

4. Low content book publishing isn’t for everybody

I think it’s fair to say that some people are in this business to make money quickly. And unfortunately as we discussed at the start, this isn’t a business that can create money quickly. Anybody thinking this is an easy way to earn an income is mistaken and is probably not suited for this business. Sometimes people can also lack the skills to create low content books, their ability to design a good cover and interior may not be what the market expects. Not everybody is good at researching. So unfortuately this business is not for everyone, even though a lot of Youtubers make it sound very easy. However, if you feel you lack certain skills you could still make a success of it by learning. Of course this will take time and contributes to the fact that this is not a business where you can make money quickly. The other way to overcome a lack of skills is to outsource your product. In which case you need to spend money upfront to produce your book before you have earned anything. Not everyone will be willing to put in all of the work and time into this business unless they accept the reality that this isn’t an easy way to make an income.

You have to love it

You have to love creating books. If you don’t enjoy the process, you will find this business very hard going. There is a lot you have to do in this business, from researching to designing. You need an open and inquisitive mind, attention to detail and the willingness to keep learning and understanding that you a making something for your customer. This means finding out what they like and need. It can be especially tough when you don’t see any positive results for a while.

However, as far as online businesses are concerned, this is still one of the best options I have encountered. It is free to start this business and relatively easy to start. However only consistency, commitment and the willingness to keep learning will get you results.

I hope this was helpful and you can now decide whether or not this is the right business for you.

  1. I have a few books published on Kindle and definitely agree that it’s a marathon not a sprint. I plan on creating more books and listing them on Kindle, and learning how to use Canva to create my ebook cover designs.
